Abstractfully Yours

Number 1 1950 (Lavender Mist)

Number 1 – 1950 (Lavender Mist) by Jackson Pollock

I’ve known I wanted to tell stories since I was six. I didn’t realize that meant writing, but I knew stories were the thing that made up my core. I would send my Barbie dolls through epic Amazonian adventures, I would stay up hours after being sent to bed telling myself stories, I would go on crazy adventures in my backyard with my invisible companions (companions, not friends, because the cast was constantly changing). And when I started to take language arts and literature classes, writing beckoned me temptingly as I hurried through my grammar and spelling lessons. You too can probably attest to the fact Continue reading

Manly May 2.0

Wow, did April fly by quickly. And we all know that April showers (wind storms, snow storms, random hot days) bring Manly May! 🙂

We are keeping it simple again this time around. Manly Hero: A Small Tale, is now on sale for $0.99 on amazon (Only the Kindle version is on sale, the paperback is still regular price). So if you haven’t read it yet, there is still time before we finish Manly Hero book two. And let me tell you, some crazy stuff is going down in book two. Crazy. Stuff.

However, next year we want to make Manly May a little more, well, Manly? Let’s just say we’d like to mix it up. So we’d love to hear your ideas for what we can do next year to make Manly May more fun. Contests? Special book covers? T-shirts? Feel free to drop us a comment with your great idea for Manly May 2014 and we will put it into the mix.

In the meantime, if you haven’t already purchased a copy, grab it for now. Or later. Later is good, too. We’d just love you to read it. 🙂

This year I will always be write(ing)

258323728598054269_pHxc5SS2

I like New Year’s resolutions. They give me something to aim for. Except I don’t think of them as rules to live by. That would be way too boring. And I’m not really the kind of person who likes tons of rules. I know they have their place, but why add more than you need? So I like to think about my New Year’s resolutions like hints, or even better, like trial runs.

Adam and I sit down every year and make a short (or sometimes longer) list of resolutions and then test them out over the course of the year. If they help, they are added into the permanent rotation of new life guidelines. If they suck, they are quickly tossed. (Okay, not always quickly tossed. My need to feel justified usually keeps me trying them for at least a week past when I realized that the resolution wasn’t making my life better.)

This year I made 5 resolutions. Most of which I’m not telling you. 😉 But one of them is relevant to this blog. Write everyday. No matter what.

Now let me tell you, the only part of this writing resolution that was easy was Continue reading

Manly Hero in Paperback! (and other news)

Do Manly proud and enjoy a good cup of tea while reading. :)

Do Manly proud and enjoy a good cup of tea while reading. 🙂

It’s finally here! The real, page edges can cut you, paper edition of our book! 🙂 And I’m pretty excited about it. Of course, last year I was also very excited about the ebook version of it being finished, but there is something about having a physical copy of it. Manly Hero, my book, sitting on my shelf, reminding me daily of both what I have accomplished and why I need to keep working on book two. That magic makes the paperback copy special. So, if you too are a lover of paperback books, check it out here.

In other news, you may notice in the next few days that the name of our blog is changing. This is just us trying to clean up all our social media and make it easier to use and keep track of. We’ve decided to use our pen name for our social media. So, Adrastus Rood will be the name of this blog, our twitter account, and our facebook page. (We’ve still got the Manly Hero facebook page up and running as well.) We’re also hoping that this is the year we fancy up our websites. But, with as busy as we’ve been, I’m not holding my breath. 😉

Lastly, we’ve got a new writing project that we are going to announce in the new year. Very excited about it. More info to come soon.
